PCS and PPM: what’s the difference?
PCS is your permanent change of station. A Personally Procured Move (PPM), often called DITY, is a way to move some or all of your household goods yourself or through a company you arrange. A partial PPM combines that with a government-arranged shipment.
Get transportation counseling and authorization before committing to a PPM. Ask about current allowances, expenses, advances and settlement requirements; this tool does not estimate or guarantee payment.
Your Army starting point
The DFAS Army checklist includes signed DD 1351-2, PCS orders, transportation-office DD 2278, weight tickets and operating-expense documentation. Confirm the complete packet with your Transportation Office.
Keep the PCS travel voucher, PPM closeout and any shipment damage claim organized as separate processes.
