PCS and PPM: what’s the difference?
PCS is your permanent change of station. A Personally Procured Move (PPM), often called DITY, is a way to move some or all of your household goods yourself or through a company you arrange. A partial PPM combines that with a government-arranged shipment.
Get transportation counseling and authorization before committing to a PPM. Ask about current allowances, expenses, advances and settlement requirements; this tool does not estimate or guarantee payment.
Your Coast Guard starting point
Coast Guard AY2026 guidance calls for counselor/member-signed DD 2278, certified empty/full weight tickets and DPS proof-of-completion/closeout steps. Confirm your claim channel with the Transportation Office; do not assume Army DFAS routing applies.

Keep the PCS travel voucher, PPM closeout and any shipment damage claim organized as separate processes.
