“Navy memorandum” can describe several internal correspondence uses. This example focuses on the common writing logic: identify the audience, state the subject clearly, organize the action or record, and use the correct signature authority.

Example memo flow
- Clear subject
- Purpose or action in the opening
- Necessary background
- Specific action, coordination, or record
- References/enclosures only when useful
- Signature appropriate to the authority
Choose the right memo type
If the primary purpose is to preserve a factual record, an MFR may be a better match. If the correspondence is formal external routing, a standard naval letter may be more appropriate.

Do not copy names, commands, serials, dates, or authority language from an example. Those elements must come from the actual package.
