Navy “By Direction” Example
“By direction” is not a stylistic option. It indicates delegated signature authority. Use this page to understand the document treatment, then verify that the signer is actually authorized to use it.

Example concept
The signature area may include the signer’s typed name with authorized delegated-signature wording. Exact treatment depends on the correspondence type and the authority granted by the command.
Before using “By direction”
- Confirm the signer has current delegated authority
- Confirm the delegation covers the type of correspondence
- Use the required title or authority wording
- Do not copy authority language from an unrelated example
Formatting versus authorization
MilAdmin can help place and format a signature block. It cannot determine or create legal/administrative signing authority.
